Life with the Cats
They have four cats, tha is four too many or four too few, Depending on your point of riew, They are Stanley, Begeria, Kenzie and Poloma, The Last, named after the dancer, is a huge misnomer.
Poloma spend most of her daytime under the bed, And appears timidly at night, at times to be fed, Begeria, when young, was a macho male, with jet black fur and a long black tail, Strong and mean and ready to fight, He kept the female cats in line, And dealt with the neighboring toughs just fine.
Stanley moved with the other cats to Chapel Hill, He needed adoption; he was wonded and ill, He was a plendid animal despite a limp and damaged paw, First he fed from the dish left outside the door, We bought a collar from the Vet, Attached a not " please claim your pet", No one replied, and with no further fuss, We rightly agreed that Stanley belonged to us.
At first confrontations and numerious spats meant fur flying, Poloma spent her time in hiding, meowing and crying, Kenzie leapt on anything with height, In an attempt to keep out of the fight, Begeria's macho reputation shredded, By the interloper the other cats dreaded, They were only safe when Stanley was sent to bed, Out in the garden or locked in the shed.
Now they have to learned to live toghether, Though Poloma's as timid as ever, Begeria and Stanley sit guardedly at the top of the stairs, Poloma is hiding while Kenzie's absorbed by her own affairs, That is four too many or four too few, Depending on your point of view! |
